Maria Fortes (Maria silva), 71, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at the Miriam hospital on November 10, 2023.

She is survived by her siblings In Cape Verde, Eugenia, Valentina, Elias and Manuel. Her children, Carlos and Anita( USA) Osvaldino and Mariella( USA) Neusa (CV)Eduardo (CV) Euclidia and Mark (Belgica)Nelson and Andrea( Portugal) Carmen and Jaime, Eloisa and Fabio (CV) Flávia and Maurício (CV). As well as 26 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews that she loved as her own. she will be laid to rest alongside her loving husband Luis Fortes.

Maria loved cheering on her favorite soccer team Benfica , and keeping in touch with her family and many friends all over the world. Maria could strike up a conversation with just about anybody and it would go on forever because she cared about what people had to say. She was the life of the party and enjoyed dancing, and being surrounded by people. She loved to garden and embraced Hope and Sky, the two family dogs which was a testament to her nurturing character and love of all people and things. The impact of her loss is not only felt here in America but also in the islands of Cabo Verde and Europe where there is a community of people who loved her. Her memory will live on forever in the hearts of the people who loved and cherished her around the world.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, from 4:00 pm-7:00pm at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Ave., Lincoln, RI 02865. The Funeral will take place in Sal, Cabo Verde.
